THINGS TO DO

In the winter time, we recommend spending your day outdoors, and trying local restaurants or wineries in the evening. There are multiple options for waterfront dining available. After an active day in the mountains, relax and enjoy a delicious meal while watching the sunset over the lake. There are normally tons of fun events going on in the winter time as well, such as the annual New Year’s Day Polar Plunge, and Santa on the Chimney in nearby Chimney Rock. Be sure to visit their websites for up to date regulations and information. These events are very popular, so it’s never too early to start planning for next year!

Our Favorite Restaurants

Some of our favorite restaurants include Legends on the Lake, Point of View Restaurant, and La Strada Italian Bar & Grill. All have delicious food and gorgeous views, which create a relaxing dining experience.
Legends on the Lake is an American traditional sports bar. Their menu has a wide array of foods including pizza, sandwiches, rib-eye steak, pasta dishes, and more.
Point of View Restaurant is a fine dining restaurant located right next to the lake, known for their delicious food and welcoming staff. Stop by on a Saturday night to enjoy the classic cocktails, as many starters as your heart desires, and the local favorite dish, the Mountain Trout.
La Strada Italian Bar and Grill is a family owned and operated restaurant with a huge deck overlooking the lake and mountains. Their menu includes Sicilian pizzas, baked pastas, a kids menu, and gluten free options. Stop by for lunch for a great deal!

Our Favorite Wineries and Breweries

The Lake Lure area has many vineyards and a reputation for producing fine wines. Our favorite way to spend an afternoon is by visiting a local winery with some friends. We love just sitting around a table enjoying the views, tasting wines and laughing together, and bringing our favorite bottles home.
Some of our favorite local wineries include Pointe Lookout, Marked Tree Vineyard, Parker Bins Winery, and Burntshirt Vineyards Tasting Room and Bistro. All have exceptional views and sometimes live music! Burntshirt has a vineyard in nearby Hendersonville and a tasting room in Chimney Rock. Here you can relax at a table on their large terrace overlooking the mountains, split a bottle of their award-winning wine and pair it with their fresh farm to table food for a perfect evening.

Beer lovers, we didn’t forget about you! Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery is located in the immediate area right on the Rocky Broad River and has really great beer. They specialize in English Cask style ales, which have a full body, smooth taste, and are served warmer than traditional beer, so it’s a great way to cozy up in the winter time! They also have a variety of other beers on tap including IPAs made from local hops, stouts and porters, and a wide variety of different ales. Grab a flight whenever you stop by so you can try them all!

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

In the winter time all the autumn leaves fall to the ground, which provide stunning long range views. At this time of year, you’ll be able to see mountains and landscapes that would typically be covered with foliage. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind view! Be sure to go for a scenic drive, hike, or bike ride to admire the views.
The mild weather and crisp mountain air make it easy to enjoy many outdoor activities in the winter time. You can hike tons of trails without even breaking a sweat! Go hiking or rock climbing in the parks, you can spend your morning golfing at Lake Lure Golf Club!
If you love the snow, there are plenty of outdoor adventure parks where you can go snow tubing nearby, or snow skiing resorts just a couple hours away, which make for a perfect day trip!

Best Hiking Trails and Bike Trails

A trip to Lake Lure would be incomplete without hiking Party Rock, which you can see from your cabin! Party Rock Trail is a moderately trafficked trail on the tougher side of a moderate rating, as it is short and steep. It is a 2.3 mile out and back trail with about a 900 foot elevation gain. The views of the lake from the top are absolutely worth the climb. Dogs are allowed on this trail, and it is accessible year round!
Buffalo Creek/Weed Patch Trail is a gorgeous hiking and biking area on the north side of Lake Lure. The Weed Patch Trail won the 2019 Coalition for Recreational Trails for its trail design and construction. You can choose from either a 3 mile loop or 18 mile out and back trail. We highly recommend packing your bike and some lunch the night before and waking up early in the morning. That way you can make it to the trailhead for a sunrise bike ride and have a lovely picnic ready to go for afterwards. Enjoy some sandwiches and a local bottle of wine while sitting on a blanket, watching the wildlife, and listening to the peaceful sounds of nature.
DuPont State Forest is another great spot to go hiking and biking. It is located about 45 minutes away from Lake Lure in Cedar Mountain, North Carolina. The state park covers over 10,000 acres and is full of luscious greenery, multiple waterfalls, and hundreds of miles of multi-use trails. Some key spots to visit include Hooker Falls and High Falls for waterfall views, Lake Julia for a beautiful hike with a pier and a picnic table area, and Ridgeline Trail for mountain biking.

Snow Activities

If you love the snow and playing in some fresh powder, we’re right there with you! There are a couple of outdoor adventure parks nearby that we highly recommend you check out for a fun day of snow tubing down the mountain with family or friends. Moonshine Mountain Snow Tubing Park and Black Bear Snow Tubing are both located in nearby Hendersonville, are reasonably priced, and such a fun group activity.
If you love skiing or snowboarding, there are a few ski resorts a couple hours away that we recommend for a great day trip. We love Wolf Ridge Resort, Sugar Mountain, and Appalachian Mountain. They’re all located in the Northwest corner of North Carolina in the High Country and have runs for every skill level whether you’re a beginner or expert skier.

Visit Chimney Rock State Park and Chimney Rock Village

Just about a 10 minute drive from Lake Lure is Chimney Rock Village and Chimney Rock State Park . If you love outdoor activities, this is a great place to visit in the winter time because of the many hiking trails in the state park and world-class climbing routes at Rumbling Bald . Because of the mild weather, the peak climbing season in Lake Lure is in the winter time. There are over 1500 puzzles that you can try no matter what your experience level is, so we highly encourage you to spend a couple hours here and see what you can do!

If you like downtown areas and shopping, stop by Chimney Rock Village afterwards. Chimney Rock Village will take you back to Christmas in the 1600s. There is a huge Christmas tree and festive lights covering the downtown area for the holidays. It’s a perfect time to visit the local shops and restaurants to try some southern cuisine and shop for unique, hand-made gifts. The town normally has tons of events going on every year, such as the Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration in the village and Santa on the Chimney in the park.
